Software Engineer

  • Remote

Job Description

As a Software Engineer, you’ll join a fast-moving and ambitious organisation where technology sits at the centre of business success. Working within a close-knit technology team, you’ll create, improve and support software used across multiple areas of the business. This Software Engineer opportunity offers genuine ownership, exposure to modern technologies and the chance to contribute to AI-assisted software delivery while helping shape future technical direction.

Remote with 1 day a week in their central Bristol office.

What experience you’ll need to apply

  • Strong PHP development experience using Symfony, Laravel or a comparable modern framework.
  • Solid JavaScript development skills.
  • Experience designing and working with relational databases and SQL.
  • Proven ability to turn business requirements into structured technical solutions.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools and reviewing generated code effectively.
  • Strong debugging, testing and code review capabilities.
  • Experience working with APIs and third-party integrations.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and systems quickly.
  • Clear communication skills and experience collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Exposure to AWS, Linux, CI/CD pipelines or deployment automation would be advantageous.
  • Experience maintaining or modernising established software platforms would be beneficial.

What you’ll be doing

As a Software Engineer, you’ll translate business requirements into clear technical solutions and deliver high-quality software across a varied product ecosystem. You’ll work on PHP and JavaScript applications, customer-facing platforms, integrations, APIs and internal systems that support day-to-day operations. You’ll create new functionality, improve existing platforms and help modernise established applications through pragmatic, sustainable engineering. Working closely with stakeholders, you’ll identify gaps in requirements, contribute to technical design discussions and ensure solutions are fit for purpose.

You’ll also use AI-assisted development tools as part of the software delivery process. This includes providing clear context to AI coding agents, reviewing generated output and maintaining responsibility for quality, security and performance standards. Alongside development activities, you’ll contribute to AWS-based infrastructure, deployments, monitoring, troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives.

What you’ll get in return for your experience

In return, there’s a competitive salary of up to £60K joining a business with a family feel that is investing heavily in software, infrastructure and AI capabilities. There will be excellent opportunities to broaden your technical expertise. You’ll have genuine influence over technical decisions, engineering standards and ways of working. The role offers exposure to a diverse technology landscape, meaningful responsibility and the chance to see your work make a visible difference across the organisation. You’ll also benefit from a collaborative working culture that encourages learning, experimentation and professional development.
