Job Description

Applications & Design-for-Manufacture (DFM) Engineer

Location: Swindon, Wiltshire (with regional travel)

Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum (approx. £673–£769 per week) + Performance Bonus + Travel Allowance

Are you a technically skilled telecoms or datacoms engineer who also loves designing innovative solutions but doesn’t want to be stuck onsite or behind a desk all day? This unique role offers the perfect blend of hands-on design, prototyping, and client-facing engagement. Key Responsibilities:

* Support sales with regional client visits to assess project needs and provide expert technical advice

* Deliver real-time design-for-manufacture solutions during client meetings

* Create accurate 2D and 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings (training provided)

* Review customer designs to optimise for production efficiency and cost

* Oversee prototyping and New Product Introduction (NPI) processes alongside production teams

* Produce detailed technical documentation for manufacturing and quality control

Requirements:

* Engineering background (HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent practical experience)

* 2D/3D CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD (training provided)

* Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and material characteristics

* Excellent communication skills tailored to technical and customer-facing situations

* Valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel regionally

* Very presentable, this is both an internal and externally facing role
