Job Description

Join Our Team as a Lead Cost Controller

Exceed has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Cost Controller to join our team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the cost control function and acting as the focal point for client cost control support. The role is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely and effective cost control across Exceed-managed projects, whilst supporting the development of the cost control team, improving processes and systems, and maintaining appropriate controls and reporting standards.

Role responsibilities will include:

  • Support the management and development of the cost control function within Exceed, acting as a senior point of contact for cost control matters
  • Preparation of AFEs and project budgets across Exceed managed projects
  • Develop and produce cost reports for submission to the wells and leadership team, to explain the well cost performance
  • Provide regular updates of well cost performance versus budgets and AFEs across Exceed managed projects
  • For ongoing operations support the drilling team with the daily completion of the cost tracker
  • Timely and accurate preparation of monthly Value of Work Done (VOWD) cost estimates and monthly/quarterly re‑forecasts
  • Performing all required financial reconciliations, including full cost reconciliations for each completed well
  • Oversee review and processing of invoices to ensure compliance with the commercial terms of contracts and correct coding of costs
  • Supporting the Contracts & Procurement team in the contracting and procurement of materials and services, ensuring that C&P activity falls within planned budgets and that requisitions are coded correctly
  • Providing any and all necessary support during routine audits of well costs by corporate auditors, partners, and statutory auditors
  • Implement the required invoicing and call off/purchase order procedure for clients
  • Review existing cost control processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, automation and reporting
  • Develop and implement improvements to cost control procedures, systems and reporting in conjunction with relevant stakeholders
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and technical support to Cost Controllers, helping to develop the capability and consistency of the wider team

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject field required
  • Formal accounting qualification strongly preferred

Experience & Skills:

  • Experience in finance roles within the oil and gas industry is essential, ideally in direct support of drilling activities. Previous experience in a senior or supervisory cost control role is desirable
  • Good understanding of E&P operations, particularly drilling and well services operations
  • Team player able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business
  • Adaptable and able to manage workload, often multiple tasks and changing priorities, effectively under pressure
  • Detail conscious with strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook
