Job DescriptionRole: Senior Embedded Software EngineerLocation: Runcorn plus flexible Hybrid Working from Home.Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 DOEOur client is a pioneering medical technology business developing critical, point-of-care devices used in environments where performance, safety, and reliability are non-negotiable - from GP surgeries and ICUs to specialist hospital departments. Their products are designed to support clinicians, extend lives, and perform flawlessly in the most demanding clinical settings.The OpportunityAs a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will take technical ownership of embedded software development across the business. Acting as the software authority, you will define architecture, set development standards, and ensure software quality, documentation, and regulatory compliance meet medical-grade expectations.You will work closely with hardware, systems, verification, and regulatory teams, playing a central role in delivering products for hospitals, critical care wards, and frontline clinical environments. This is a key role within a growing medical device organisation, where your decisions will directly influence both product performance and patient outcomes.About YouMedical device or other regulated-industry experience is essential for this role. You'll need hands-on exposure to developing software within a regulated environment - ideally medical devices, but relevant experience from other safety-critical or regulated sectors will also be considered - along with a solid understanding of the standards and mindset that regulated development demands, including:Proven experience developing embedded software for medical devices or another regulated industry (e.g. aerospace, automotive safety, or similar safety-critical sectors)Working knowledge of relevant standards and regulatory frameworks, such as ISO 13485, IEC 62304, IEC 60601, or equivalentA strong grasp of the documentation, traceability, and verification rigour required for regulated, safety-critical software developmentExperience collaborating with regulatory, quality, or verification teams as part of the software development lifecycleStrong, hands-on senior-level embedded software engineering skills, with the technical credibility to define architecture and set development standardsEngineers from other safety-critical or regulated backgrounds who are motivated to specialise further in medical technology are welcome to apply, provided they can demonstrate genuine exposure to regulated development practices.Package & Benefits£60,000 - £70,000 base salary (DOE)Generous employer pension contribution8% annual performance-based bonusFlexible hybrid working modelWork on meaningful products that directly improve and save livesWhy Apply?This is a rare opportunity to combine cutting-edge embedded software engineering with genuine clinical impact.
