Dancing for Well-Being is a Harrogate charity using inclusive dance to improve the wellbeing of older people and those facing barriers to participation. We are seeking an experienced, values‑led General Manager to lead our next chapter of growth and impact.

Job Description

The General Manager is the senior operational leader of Dancing for Well-Being, reporting to the Board of Trustees and responsible for all employed staff.

The role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on operational management, ensuring the charity remains financially sustainable, well governed and able to deliver high‑quality services that improve people’s wellbeing.

Key responsibilities include leading organisational finances and income generation, managing budgets, monitoring cashflow and financial performance, securing grant funding and developing new income opportunities. The postholder will build strong relationships with funders, partners and supporters while identifying opportunities for growth and increased impact.

The General Manager will lead and develop staff, oversee recruitment and performance management processes, support wellbeing and professional development, and foster a positive, inclusive organisational culture.

Working closely with Trustees, the role is responsible for governance, compliance and risk management, ensuring adherence to Charity Commission requirements, safeguarding responsibilities, health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion, and data protection obligations.

The role also involves developing new projects and partnerships, assessing community needs, exploring opportunities for service expansion and innovation, and securing resources to deliver new initiatives.

As the public face of the organisation, the General Manager will represent Dancing for Well-Being with key stakeholders, help raise awareness of the charity’s impact, and support marketing and communications activities.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a well‑established and respected charity as it continues to grow and support people across the Harrogate district and beyond.

Job Requirements

We are seeking an experienced, values‑led leader with a proven ability to manage people, finances and organisational performance.

You will have experience of budget management, financial reporting and income generation, including securing funding through grants, contracts or other revenue streams. Experience working with Trustees, Boards or governance groups and a sound understanding of compliance and risk management are essential.

You should be confident leading and developing teams, building effective partnerships and communicating with a wide range of stakeholders. Strong organisational, planning and problem‑solving skills are important, alongside the ability to work strategically while remaining hands‑on when required.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about wellbeing, inclusion and community impact, and who demonstrates warmth, resilience, collaboration and integrity.

Job Responsibilities

The General Manager will lead the day‑to‑day operations of Dancing for Well-Being and work closely with the Board of Trustees to ensure the charity remains sustainable, compliant and impactful.
