About The Role

We have an opportunity for an Asset Engineer Structures (R&E) within Southern's Asset Management Team.

Based at London Blackfriars, determine renewal requirements and develop allocated Structures engineering renewal and enhancement requirements. Produce specifications and acceptance criteria for Structures engineering works to achieve the required scope and quality in accordance with company engineering policies.

Key Accountabilities

• Inspect and prioritise renewal proposals for inclusion in the Structures (R&E) engineering workbank. Prioritise actions to address defects, comments and other issues raised in designs, in accordance with standards and functional policy.
• Undertake engineering analysis and risk assessments of assets or asset components to support the asset management process and scheme development, including business cases and whole-life cost analysis.
• Provide support to the production and prioritisation of a route business plan. Develop allocated renewal and enhancement schemes to meet Network Rail's goals prior to handover to delivery.
• Following handover, support the development and implementation of projects to confirm the renewal requirements are sufficient, correctly interpreted and any changes agreed.
• Write clear remits and check that completed schemes are appropriately assessed to determine they meet the project remit.
• Specify acceptance criteria for Structures (R&E) engineering works including design approval, acceptance of equipment and hand back to maintenance as appropriate. Audit acceptance processes are being discharged appropriately.
• Work with members of the other asset management and project teams to review renewal and enhancement proposals to optimise engineering activity across the railway infrastructure system and identify critical technical problems.
• Check that accurate and comprehensive records relating to the existence, configuration and modification history of Structures (R&E) engineering assets are maintained and that they accurately reflect their current as-built status.
• Carry out asset condition inspections that will inform the Structures (R&E) asset condition database and the renewals work bank.

Salary: Band 4C £43,588- £53,167 plus an Inner London allowance of £3,270.

Drugs And Alcohol Standard

Depending on the role, candidates that are made a conditional offer, may be a required to undergo and pass a drugs and alcohol test. Your offer will be rescinded if you record a positive test. All positive drugs and alcohol test results will be securely held on Sentinel database and a five-year suspension from applying for a safety critical role, a role which requires PTS certification or a Key Safety role on Network Rail Managed Infrastructure will be enforced.

Network Rail adheres to pre-employment Baseline Personal Security Standard (BPSS), this is government standard for pre -employment vetting. BPSS government standard pre-employment vetting requires Network Rail to screen a potential employee's unspent criminal convictions and undertake 3-year career checks. Employment at Network Rail is subject to employees meeting the BPSS government standard pre-employment vetting.

Your Experience And Skills

What We're Looking For

Essential

• HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Substantial relevant experience in structures or civil engineering
• A sound knowledge of structures engineering policies and standards
• Knowledge of Structures Assessment
• An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques
• Working towards membership of a relevant professional institution

Desirable

• Degree in a relevant subject
• Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer
• Member of a relevant professional institution
