The Role:
At Hotel Café Royal, we are passionate about delivering an exceptional experience to our guests in house. Our focus is on providing outstanding guest service, and creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere whereby the building and facilities are expertly maintained.
As a Shift Engineer at Hotel Café Royal, you are the custodian of our historic and contemporary space. You will play a vital role in maintaining the hotels infrastructure, ensuring all technical equipment, guest rooms, public spaces, plant areas, and spa facilities (wet and dry) are operating at optimal performance. You will work collaboratively within our Engineering team, carrying out both planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive tasks to consistently uphold the standards expected of a luxury hotel environmentfor the benefit of both our guests and our team.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out daily checks and maintenance on hotel plant, MEP systems, spa equipment, guest rooms, and back-of-house facilities.
Respond promptly and professionally to engineering requests, faults, and breakdowns.
Ensure that work orders are completed efficiently and recorded in accordance with internal systems and compliance standards.
Support energy-saving initiatives and sustainability targets through proactive maintenance.
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance tasks performed and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Perform general trade duties within your skillset (electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, etc.).
Act as an ambassador for the Engineering department, delivering service with a high attention to detail and professionalism at all times.
Work across a 12-hour, 4 on / 4 off shift rota, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in a similar role within a hotel, luxury residential, or serviced buildingideally within a 5-star environment.
Hold at least one of the following Level 3 trade qualifications:
Electrical Installation
Plumbing & Heating
Air Conditioning & Refrigeration
Mechanical Engineering
Additional qualifications in Health & Safety, Pool Plant Operations, or similar disciplines are highly advantageous.
Technically skilled, with a hands-on and solutions-focused approach to engineering challenges.
