Senior Java Developer x2 – Cloud-Native / Event-Driven Systems | Public Sector | Up to £470/day (Inside IR35)We're hiring 2x Senior Software Engineers to join a major UK public sector programme, building cloud-native, event-driven services that support critical national digital infrastructure.You'll work alongside Technical Architects, Data Engineers and Product teams to design and deliver secure, scalable APIs and event-driven services — helping raise engineering standards while supporting and evolving existing live systems.Location: Leeds, Sheffield or London (hybrid — travel flexibility dependent on team)Clearance: Active SC clearance required, or strong confidence of obtaining itEssential: Prior experience working within UK Government or wider public sector is requiredWhat you'll be doing:Designing and building secure, scalable cloud-native services and REST APIsDeveloping event-driven architectures using asynchronous messaging patternsDesigning and implementing microservices within AWSBuilding integrations across operational systems via APIs and event-based architecturesApplying Domain Driven Design (DDD) and modern software design patternsDeveloping secure services using OAuth2, JWT and related standardsTranslating business requirements into maintainable technical solutionsDesigning for observability, resilience and operational supportBuilding reusable components and engineering patterns to promote consistencyWhat we’re looking for:Strong production experience across at least two of the following: Java, Kotlin, GoStrong experience building RESTful APIs (Spring Boot or equivalent)Experience with event-driven systems (Kafka, SNS/SQS, EventBridge)Solid grounding in automated testing, CI/CD, code review and version controlCloud-native development experience within AWSExperience with Infrastructure as CodeExperience working in agile, multidisciplinary delivery teamsStrong communication skills — technical and non-technical stakeholdersPrevious UK Government or public sector experience essentialNice to have:Experience with telemetry, IoT or event streaming platformsExperience with geospatial or location-based systemsIf you're an experienced engineer confident across two or more of Java, Kotlin and Go, with a public sector background and active or eligible SC clearance, get in touch or drop me a message to find out more.#Java #Kotlin #Go #AWS #PublicSector #ContractJobs #InsideIR35 #SoftwareEngineering #SCCleared
