ABOUT THE CLIENT

Our client is a leading organisation delivering secure, business-critical technology within a highly sensitive environment. Their engineering teams work across complex infrastructure, cloud and systems platforms where resilience, security and reliability are essential.

Due to continued demand across their technical environment, they are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to design, implement and support secure, scalable and resilient IT systems.

THE SYSTEMS ENGINEER ROLE:

As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining secure and resilient IT systems across on-premise, hybrid and cloud environments.

You will work closely with engineers, architects and delivery teams to ensure systems remain highly available, performant and secure, while also supporting complex technical issues and ongoing service improvements.

Key responsibilities include:

Designing, implementing and supporting enterprise IT systems and infrastructure

Managing systems across on-premise, hybrid and cloud environments

Monitoring performance and identifying opportunities for optimisation

Troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues and conducting root cause analysis

Implementing automation for provisioning, configuration and operational processes

Managing patching, updates, backups and disaster recovery

Applying security best practices including system hardening, access controls and vulnerability management

Supporting integration between systems, networks and applications

Producing technical designs, documentation and operational procedures

Providing 2nd/3rd line technical support

Working with multidisciplinary teams on projects and service enhancements

SYSTEMS ENGINEER ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

Strong experience in Systems Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering or Systems Administration

Experience with Linux and/or Windows Server

Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP

Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and firewalls

Experience with VMware, Hyper-V or KVM

Experience with automation/configuration tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet or Chef

Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Splunk or Nagios

Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

Understanding of security principles and system hardening

Experience supporting enterprise IT environments

eDV clearance is essential

DESIRABLE:

Docker and/or Kubernetes

DevOps and CI/CD practices

Infrastructure-as-Code

Systems design and architecture

Experience within defence, government or other secure environments

Relevant AWS, Microsoft, Linux or VMware certifications
