Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Year 5 Teaching Assistant – Mornings Only

We are working with a warm and welcoming primary school who are seeking an experienced Year 5 Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. The school is looking to initially trial the right person, with the opportunity for the role to become an ongoing position working every morning until 1:15pm .

This is a lovely Year 5 class with excellent behaviour and a positive learning environment. The successful Teaching Assistant will provide general classroom support alongside targeted support for pupils with SEND and EAL needs , including one child with an EHCP. With upcoming CSI and Ofsted inspections , the school is looking for a confident and capable TA who can quickly settle into the classroom and provide a consistently high standard of support.

Duties and responsibilities

Support the class teacher with the day-to-day running of the Year 5 classroom

Provide targeted support for pupils with SEND and EAL needs

Support a pupil with an EHCP alongside general classroom responsibilities

Work with individuals and small groups to develop learning, confidence and engagement

Support pupils with reading, writing, communication and language development

Help pupils to access learning and complete activities set by the class teacher

Maintain a positive, calm and encouraging learning environment

Work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to ensure pupils receive the appropriate support

Experience and qualifications

Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a primary school

Strong communication and literacy skills, with confidence supporting pupils with English, including those with EAL and SEND

A good understanding of the primary curriculum, ideally with experience supporting KS2

Experience supporting pupils with additional needs

Confidence working with individuals and small groups

A proactive approach with the ability to use initiative within the classroom

A calm, professional and reliable manner

Strong relationship-building skills with both pupils and staff

The ability to quickly adapt and become a valuable member of the school team
