Job Description

Electrical Design Engineer

Abingdon (Hybrid : 3 days onsite)
Contract to March 2027 | £55/hr Umbrella (£40.08 PAYE)
IR35: Inside IR35 only

Role

Opportunity for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to support complex engineering projects, delivering designs from concept to detailed stage across major systems.

What You’ll Do

  • Accountable for supporting design work on major fusion sub-systems, from concept through to detailed design on enhancement programs for facilities as well as for future fusion devices.
  • Accountable for design aspects relating to all assigned systems / components including repair, replacement or upgrade activities.
  • Deliver electrical designs, upgrades, and modifications.
  • Produce technical documentation (drawings, BoMs, cable schedules).
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Support design validation and collaborate with wider teams.
  • Apply design for manufacture and value engineering principles.

Requirements

  • Electrical Engineering background with Control & Instrumentation experience
  • Knowledge of UK/EU electrical standards (incl. BS EN 60204-1)
  • Solid Works (Electrical) CAD experience
  • Strong design, technical documentation, and communication skills
  • Relevant qualification (Degree/HNC/HND or equivalent)
  • Proficient in the knowledge and application of recognised drawing standards and BS EN 61082 in particular

Desirable

  • BS 7671 (18th Edition)
  • Experience with SolidWorks Electrical (currently used), EPLAN, or AutoCAD Electrical

BPSS clearance will be required
