Security Manager

Dawson Jones Recruitment is working with a education organisation in Hampshire to recruit an experienced Security Manager for an initial 9-month interim assignment.
This is a varied management role combining people leadership, operational security and security systems management. You'll lead an established team responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors, while also helping to develop and improve the organisation's wider security provision.
The role would suit an experienced security professional who is confident managing people, has strong technical knowledge of security systems and is comfortable operating in a busy, public-facing environment.

The role
You'll take responsibility for the day-to-day management and development of the security service, including:
Leading a team consisting of a Supervisor and Site Stewards, with potential responsibility for a further team of Welfare Wardens
Managing the performance, development and day-to-day operation of the security team
Overseeing CCTV, access control, alarm and wider security systems
Supporting the installation, integration and development of security systems rather than simply their day-to-day operation
Developing and reviewing security policies, procedures and working practices
Managing security incidents and ensuring appropriate escalation and response
Overseeing aspects of parking and traffic management
Liaising with contractors and external service providers
Working collaboratively with teams across the organisation to maintain a safe and welcoming campus environment
Supporting the delivery of an effective out-of-hours security service
The position is primarily Monday to Friday, 9am5pm, although some flexibility is required. As the manager responsible for an out-of-hours service, you may occasionally need to respond to calls outside normal working hours and, where necessary, attend site. This is expected to be rare.

About you
We're looking for someone with strong security management experience who can combine technical knowledge with confident and effective people management.
You'll ideally have:
Experience managing a security team within a complex organisation or estate
Good knowledge of CCTV, access control and alarm systems
Experience beyond simply operating security systems, ideally including installation, integration or development
Experience developing or contributing to security policies and procedures
Strong contractor and stakeholder management skills
The confidence to manage different personalities and hold your own when required
A diplomatic, intuitive and measured approach to dealing with people and situations
The flexibility to respond appropriately when unexpected issues arise
A full UK driving licence

Previous experience within education would be advantageous but isn't essential. We're equally interested in candidates from other complex, public-facing environments who can demonstrate the right combination of security expertise, leadership and interpersonal skills.
