We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support for a child with Autism in a Key Stage 1 (KS1) classroom. This role is crucial in facilitating an inclusive and supportive learning environment, tailored to the child’s unique needs.

Day to day of the role:

Provide one-to-one support to a child with Autism, ensuring they are engaged and making progress in their learning.

Collaborate with the lead teacher to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and adapt teaching methods to support the child’s learning and development.

Use a variety of strategies, including visual aids and structured routines, to enhance communication and understanding.

Assist with the development of social skills by encouraging positive interactions with peers.

Monitor the child’s behaviour and use appropriate interventions to manage sensory overload or other challenges.

Maintain regular communication with the child’s parents or guardians, providing updates on progress and collaborating on strategies to support learning at home.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Previous experience working with children with Autism or special educational needs, particularly in a KS1 setting.

Understanding of the challenges faced by children with Autism and knowledge of strategies to support their learning and development.

Patience, empathy, and a commitment to creating a positive and supportive learning environment.

Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals.

A proactive and flexible approach to adapt to the child’s needs throughout the school day.

Relevant qualifications in education, special needs support, or a related field are highly desirable.
