Job Title: Staff Software Engineer Location: Belfast / Northern Ireland (remote-first, commuting distance required) Salary: 65,000 – 70,000 Employment Type: Permanent, Full-timeOverviewWe are working with a well-established technology organisation that builds and operates large-scale, highly available platforms used by customers of all sizes. The engineering team in Belfast owns the development and ongoing enhancement of a mission-critical platform that processes very high transaction volumes, where performance, resilience, and reliability are key.This role is suited to a senior engineer who enjoys technical leadership, hands-on development, and mentoring others, while working closely with product and engineering stakeholders.The RoleAs a Staff Software Engineer, you will provide technical leadership within a cross-functional engineering team, contributing to both architectural decisions and day-to-day development. You will guide the delivery of features from the product roadmap, ensure high engineering standards, and support the growth of less-experienced engineers.You’ll work across back-end and, where required, front-end components, helping to design and build scalable, robust services in a modern CI/CD environment.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and mentor a team of software engineers across varying experience levelsDesign, develop, review, and maintain complex, high-quality codebasesProvide technical guidance on testing strategies, validation, and quality standardsContribute to architectural decisions and system design for scalable servicesEstimate effort for complex initiatives and support delivery planningSupport deployment activities across test and production environmentsTroubleshoot complex issues and communicate solutions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholdersPromote best practices in coding standards, design patterns, and continuous improvementSupport onboarding and on-the-job training for engineers within the teamRequired ExperienceDegree in Computer Science or a related discipline6+ years of professional software development experienceStrong server-side development experience using C# / .NETExperience designing and implementing scalable web or service-based solutionsSolid experience with relational databases (e.g. SQL Server or equivalent)Experience working in CI/CD environments (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab, Bamboo)Strong background in automated testing (unit testing, BDD frameworks)Good understanding of software design principles, OOP, refactoring, and design patternsExperience working in Agile delivery environments (Scrum, Kanban, Lean)Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex technical problemsExcellent communication and collaboration skillsMust be based in Northern Ireland or within commuting distance of Belfast, with the full rights to work in the UKNice to HaveExperience with UI technologies (HTML, CSS)Exposure to software architecture, systems administration, or information securityExperience working on high-availability or high-throughput systemsBenefitsCompetitive salaryRemote-first flexible working (office available in central Belfast)26 days annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing with service)Private medical and dental insuranceLife insurance, income protection, and critical illness coverPension with employer matching (5%–8%) and salary sacrifice optionsEnhanced company-paid maternity leaveCycle to work and electric car schemesEmployee stock purchase planRegular company social events and community initiatives#LI-JM2Discipline(s): Technology & ITJob type: Permanent
