Job Description

CMM Programmer / Faro Operator – Defence Manufacturing

Stockport | Permanent | Quality Inspection

A globally recognised defence manufacturer in Stockport is looking for a CMM Programmer / Faro Operator to join its Quality team. You'll be responsible for dimensional inspection of precision piece parts and assemblies using Faro measurement arms and CMM equipment, supporting production and final inspection while ensuring components meet demanding engineering and quality requirements.

What you'll be doing:

Carrying out mechanical inspection and alignment of precision assemblies and components produced both in-house and by suppliers

Setting up and operating metrology equipment including conventional CMMs and portable articulating measurement arms such as Faro

Reading and interpreting engineering drawings to correctly set up parts and assemblies for CMM measurement

Applying Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) standards

Working with engineering and other teams to understand design intent

Clearly reporting measurement results to relevant stakeholders

Providing proactive product quality support and judgement to production teams

Supporting and organising dimensional PPAP documentation through to customer approval

Reviewing historical measurement data to determine appropriate calibration intervals

Supporting physical inspection activities including assembly, PDI and FAT where required

Occasionally supporting inspection activities at customer sites

Maintaining a clean and safe working environment and complying with company Environmental, Health & Safety and quality procedures

What you need:

Degree, HND, HNC or significant experience within an engineering environment

Demonstrated experience using Faro and/or CMM equipment

Experience with metrology software such as PolyWorks, Calypso or CAM2 Measure 10

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Good IT skills including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook

Good written and verbal communication skills

Ability to prioritise tasks and manage workload effectively

Proactive, team-focused approach with strong problem-solving skills

Experience within heavy fabrication would be beneficial

ERP or quality management system experience would be advantageous

Knowledge of ISO 9001/AQAP quality standards is desirable

Understanding of quality assurance and non-conformance reporting would be beneficial
