Senior Java Developer

Salary: £70,000 - 75,000 per year

Requirements:

Strong commercial experience developing applications using Java.

Experience with modern Java frameworks including Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and Hibernate / JPA.

Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices.

Strong understanding of software engineering principles and best practices.

Experience working within Agile software delivery environments.

Proficiency with Git and modern development workflows.

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients and stakeholders.

Experience working in a customer-facing, consultancy, or stakeholder-driven environment.

Experience working within Financial Services, Banking, FinTech, Insurance or Wealth Management environments.

Previous consultancy or professional services experience.

Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.

Knowledge of containerisation technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.

Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

Understanding of event-driven architecture and messaging technologies.

Exposure to modern front-end frameworks and technologies.

Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, Claude or similar technologies.

Experience using AI to improve development efficiency, code quality and delivery outcomes.

Exposure to AI-powered automation solutions.

Experience integrating AI services, APIs or Large Language Models (LLMs) into applications.

Interest in emerging AI technologies and their practical application within software development.

Must be within a commutable distance of either Newcastle or Edinburgh, with office attendance required approximately once per month.

Responsibilities:

Design, develop and maintain enterprise-scale Java applications.

Collaborate directly with clients to understand requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.

Contribute to solution design and technical architecture discussions.

Develop clean, maintainable and performant code.

Work within Agile delivery teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.

Conduct code reviews and support best practice development standards.

Mentor junior and mid-level developers.

Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, QA Engineers and DevOps teams.

Support continuous improvement initiatives across development processes and tooling.

Stay current with emerging technologies and identify opportunities to enhance client solutions.
