Shift Engineer

Job Description

Shift Engineer - Critical Facilities (Data Centre)

We are looking for an experienced Engineer to join our in-house engineering team within a mission-critical data centre. You will play a key role in the planned maintenance, operation and continuous improvement of critical infrastructure, ensuring the highest levels of reliability, efficiency and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across critical electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Perform routine inspections, fault finding, diagnostics and repairs on mission-critical plant.
  • Operate and maintain generators, UPS systems, switchgear, chillers, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, pumps and associated HVAC equipment.
  • Monitor BMS/EMS systems and investigate plant alarms or abnormal operating conditions.
  • Support planned shutdowns, maintenance activities and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Manage and supervise specialist contractors, ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with site procedures.
  • Complete maintenance records, service reports and asset updates using CMMS.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation, permit-to-work systems and site operational procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on plant reliability, energy efficiency and operational resilience.

About You

  • Experience working within a data centre, critical environment, facilities maintenance or other mission-critical setting.
  • Strong electrical and/or mechanical maintenance background with excellent fault-finding skills.
  • Knowledge of critical infrastructure including UPS, standby generators, HVAC systems, chilled water systems and BMS.
  • Experience coordinating maintenance activities and working alongside specialist contractors.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
  • Committed to delivering high standards of safety, compliance and engineering excellence.
