Job Description

Teaching Assistant - Primary School

Location: Northampton, Northamptonshire

Start Date: September 2026

Contract Type: Full-Time | Permanent

Pay: Competitive salary, dependent on experience

We are working closely with a friendly and inclusive primary school in Northampton that is seeking a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join its team from September 2026.

This role would suit someone who enjoys helping children learn, grow in confidence, and develop their independence. You will work alongside class teachers and the wider school team, providing practical and academic support to pupils across the primary age range.

Your Responsibilities

Supporting class teachers with the day-to-day delivery of lessons

Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils who require additional help

Helping children develop their reading, writing, phonics, numeracy, and wider curriculum skills

Adapting activities and providing encouragement to help pupils access their learning

Supporting children with SEND and individual learning requirements

Helping pupils build confidence, independence, and positive attitudes towards school

Promoting good behaviour and positive interactions within the classroom

Assisting with classroom preparation, resources, displays, and activities

Supporting pupils during break and lunchtime when required

Developing positive and trusting relationships with pupils

Working closely with teachers and other support staff to ensure pupils receive the appropriate support
