Software Engineer – Java, Spring Boot & Big Data | eDV Cleared | National SecurityJoin a technology and engineering team delivering systems that support customers across National Security, Defence and Intelligence, working on solutions that operate in some of the most demanding and sensitive environments in the sector.We are looking for a Software Engineer with strong experience in Java, Spring Boot and big data engineering to join a growing engineering function, designing, developing and maintaining scalable software and data-processing solutions with a strong focus on automation, reliability and operational excellence.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, test and maintain scalable applications and services using Java and Spring BootDevelop and maintain big data processing solutions using Hadoop and related technologiesBuild and maintain reliable, efficient data-processing pipelinesWork with large and complex datasets to support data processing and analytics requirementsApply software engineering best practices, including code reviews, automated testing and version controlUse GitLab for source control, collaboration and CI/CD activitiesAutomate application and infrastructure configuration and deployment using AnsibleApply SRE principles to improve reliability, availability, performance and scalability of production servicesMonitor and troubleshoot applications and data platforms, participating in incident investigation and root-cause analysisIdentify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve engineering efficiencyCollaborate with Product Managers and technical stakeholders to deliver effective solutionsEssential Skills & ExperienceProfessional software development experience using JavaStrong experience developing applications and services using Spring BootExperience with big data engineering, including large-scale data processing and data pipelinesHands-on experience with Hadoop or comparable distributed data-processing technologiesUnderstanding of data analytics and experience working with large or complex datasetsExperience with Ansible or comparable infrastructure/configuration automation technologiesExperience using GitLab, including source control and ideally CI/CD pipelinesUnderstanding and practical application of SRE principles, including production support, monitoring and troubleshootingStrong understanding of the software development lifecycle and engineering best practicesStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsDesirable Skills & ExperienceExperience with Apache Pig or similar data-processing technologiesExperience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCPExperience with Docker and/or KubernetesExperience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelinesExperience with monitoring, logging and observability platformsExperience with relational and/or NoSQL databasesExperience designing and operating highly available distributed systemsExperience working in an Agile/Scrum environmentLocationsGloucester, with time on customer sites for high-side integration and deployment; limited hybrid working may be possible depending on project needsSecurity ClearanceValid eDVclearance is required for this role
