The Role

As a developer at Storm,you willbe part of our technical team at our modernoffices in historic Leith, getting involved in a variety of projects and workingcollaboratively within our diverse project teams.

You willwork alongside other developersand technical leadsto specify, implement, test,and deploy software solutions for our varied clients.You will have the opportunity to grow and learn from others as well as make your ownmark among your peers.

You willalsobe exposedto, andparticipateinthe creation of scripts and templates that automate the software delivery process, this may include but not be limitedto: infrastructure as code templatesusingTerraform or Bicep, build and test automation scriptsfor bothfrontend and backend code,and the maintenance ofbuild and release pipelines withinGitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.

About you

We know that many professionals will come from a variety of backgrounds, and we encourage and value people who bring unique perspectives and knowledge to our team.You willhaveatleast one year of experienceas a web developer working with production web applications.You are lookingfora new challenge working in a dynamic, ever changing digital landscapewhere collaboration between individuals,teamsand clientsmakes a real differencetoend users.Your experience will be as a web developerwith demonstrable knowledge ofC# and .NET,but you will have a keen interestand some experiencein the practices and processes needed tosuccessfully and continuously deliver cloud native software, this will include:

  • Source Control systems likeGit.
  • Automation and provisioning within cloud Platforms such asMicrosoft Azure or AWS.
  • Build and deploymentautomationwithGitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
  • Web API development withASP.NET Core(Minimal APIs or controllers).
  • Relational databases such asPostgreSQLorSQL Server, and ORMs likeEntity Framework Core.
  • Containerisation withDocker.
  • Unit and integration testing using frameworks such asNUnitorxUnit.
  • RESTful API design, including an understanding of HTTP verbs, status codes, and JSON.
  • You willhave a "secure by default" mind-setin all work you do, followingguidelines and practices to improve the security of the solutions as well asadvisingothers on those guidelines.

You willalsobe need to be:

  • enthusiastic and motivated, with an appetite for learning
  • a great communicator and natural collaborator
  • a "big picture thinker" that can see and react to factors notdirectly relatedto code
  • unafraid to ask questions
  • adept at solving conceptual problems

What you’ll do

  • Work with the other members of a project team to definefeatures and functionality for our client’s applications.
  • Deliver maintainable solutions, while taking advantageofcommondesign patternsand practices.
  • Implement reusablesoftware components and scripts that support both development and operational systems and processes.
  • Debug and diagnose issues withapplications andcloud infrastructurein a secure and compliant way.
  • Research andshare knowledge of toolsand technologies that canassistand improve how we build,deployandmaintainsoftware.
  • Participate in our in-house (secondline) support of applications you and others have built.
  • Providesupporttoother developersin relation to our DevOps processes and practices.This could beassistingwith the creation of a buildscriptorthe creation of anInfrastructure as Codetemplate to provision application infrastructure.
  • Use our continuous build and deployment pipeline to rapidly deliver code during project development and whenparticipatingin support.
  • Assistin the maintenance of our continuous build and deployment environments.
  • Write,executeandmaintainautomated testswithin our continuous build and deployment pipelines.
  • Help to produceandmaintainreference and tutorialdocumentationrelated toour DevOpsprocesses and practicesforboth technical and non-technical individuals.
