Senior Software Engineer, Web Platform

The opportunity We are hiring for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Web Platform team here at Unity. Unity's Web platform lets games and real-time 3D content run in a browser, on any internet connected device. Browser capability has moved fast, browser gaming is going through a revival, and the Unity Web runtime is what makes it possible. Our work also supports an exciting new partnership with a major platform, which puts what this team builds in front of audiences at a scale few browser platforms reach. In this role, you will own meaningful areas of the runtime outright. This is not website development. We embed Unity inside the browser, and the problems are the deep ones: making a single-threaded platform multi-threaded, cutting megabytes out of a build, getting a game playable in seconds rather than minutes. You will work alongside engineers who helped invent the browser technology we build on, and you will help the people around you grow.What you'll be doingOwn meaningful areas of the Unity Web runtime, from design through to releaseResearch, design and implement optimizations to the Web build target, such as stripping unused code from builds and progressively loading assets as a game needs themImprove download size, load and startup performance for Web builds, and set measurable targets for itSolve uncommon, low-level problems across C++, C# and JavaScript, for example bringing multi-threading to parts of the runtime that are single-threaded todayPartner with teams across Unity who build on the Web platform, translating what they need into platform workMentor teammates and help set the bar for code quality across the teamKeep Unity at the frontier of the Web's constantly evolving capabilitiesWhat we're looking forDeep, hands-on proficiency with C++ in performance sensitive codeDevelopment experience with WebAssembly, using Emscripten and/or LLVMAbility to decompose complex technical problems and complete them on your own technical judgmentExperience profiling, debugging and optimizing across the native and browser boundaryWorking knowledge of C# and JavaScriptEffective written/verbal communication with peers, managers and key decision makers in other teamsA proven track record of mentoring engineers and raising code quality standardsYou might also haveExperience contributing to a browser engine or browser runtimeDeeper domain knowledge of rendering, physics or audio in a real-time 3D engineFamiliarity with compression methodologies and build size reductionUnited Kingdom Base Salary Range: We determine the base salary range for this role based on your primary work location: Zone A: £55,700 - £83,500 GBP gross Zone B: £63,700 - £95,500 GBP grossFinland Base Salary Range: We determine the base salary range for this role based on your primary work location: Zone A: €62,700 - €94,100 EUR grossLithuania Base Salary Range: We determine the base salary range for this role based on your primary work location: Zone A: €54,200 - €81,400 EUR grossThis range reflects the anticipated base salary for this position. Beyond base salary, this role may be eligible for equity awards and participation in our company incentive plans (such as annual discretionary bonuses or sales commissions).
